Traders plan to assemble at Holi Gate Chauraha at 10:00 AM before marching towards the Mathura Municipal Corporation office.

According to trade body leaders, the protest aims to highlight multiple issues including road construction delays, incomplete drainage infrastructure, pending property-related matters, alleged misconduct by municipal enforcement teams, and several long-standing commercial grievances.

Road Construction Projects Draw Strong Criticism

Trade leaders alleged that multiple roads across the city have been dug up simultaneously in the name of development, causing significant inconvenience to residents, pilgrims, commuters, and local businesses.

Particular concerns were raised regarding road construction stretches between:

Old Bus Stand to Holi Gate Chauraha

Krishnapuri Chauraha to Holi Gate Chauraha

Holi Gate to Bharatpur Gate

According to traders, prolonged construction activity has adversely impacted business operations and disrupted daily movement in some of the city’s busiest commercial areas.

They also alleged that certain roads were reconstructed in recent years, yet footpaths and drainage systems on both sides remain incomplete, resulting in safety concerns and frequent accidents.

Concerns Over Waterlogging and Drainage

Business representatives claimed that some ongoing road projects are not being executed according to proper standards, creating the possibility of water accumulation inside shops during the monsoon season.

With the rainy season approaching, traders have also demanded pre-monsoon cleaning of drains and improved urban drainage management.

Pending Commercial and Property Matters

The trade body has also raised concerns regarding several administrative issues that have remained unresolved for years.

Among them is the issue of property tax and water tax collection related to shops and residential units allotted to displaced families at Jawahar Haat. Traders claim that despite resolutions being approved by municipal boards in the past, implementation remains stuck at the administrative level.

Similarly, shop owners on Kotwali Road have demanded completion of long-pending property name transfer procedures, stating that despite payments being made, the process has not been finalized.

Allegations Against Municipal Enforcement Teams

One of the major points likely to feature during the protest concerns the Municipal Corporation’s mobile enforcement teams.

Trade representatives alleged that enforcement actions carried out in the name of plastic control and anti-encroachment drives have led to instances of harassment, intimidation, and inappropriate behaviour towards shopkeepers.

The Municipal Corporation has not yet publicly responded to these allegations.

Bhains Bahora Drain Issue Also on Agenda

The protest will also highlight demands related to the drainage system at Bhains Bahora.

According to traders, accidents involving both humans and animals have reportedly occurred in the area in the past. They are demanding proper reconstruction of the drain and relocation of the nearby waste disposal site situated along the main road.

Thousands Expected to Join March

Speaking on behalf of the organization, Metropolitan President Sunil Agrawal, Metropolitan General Secretary Shashibhanu Garg, and Sunil Sahani said preparations for the protest are already underway.

They stated that nearly five dozen affiliated market and trade units across the city are being contacted to mobilize participation.

The organizers expect a large turnout from traders representing different commercial areas of Mathura.

Appeal to Business Community

Several office bearers of the trade body, including vice presidents, executive members, and regional representatives, have appealed to traders across the city to participate in the June 18 demonstration.

The organization says the protest is intended to draw attention to civic and commercial concerns that have remained unresolved despite repeated representations over the years.

MathuraNow View

Mathura’s growing importance as a religious tourism destination makes urban infrastructure and market accessibility critical issues for both local businesses and visiting pilgrims.

While development projects are essential for the city’s future growth, traders argue that delays, incomplete infrastructure, and administrative bottlenecks are creating avoidable hardships.

The June 18 protest is likely to become an important test of how effectively civic authorities and stakeholders can address these concerns through dialogue and timely action.

Key Protest Details

Date: June 18, 2026

Time: 10:00 AM

Assembly Point: Holi Gate Chauraha, Mathura

Destination: Municipal Corporation Office

Organizer: Nagar Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal

Main Issues: Road construction delays, drainage problems, property disputes, enforcement complaints, and long-pending commercial matters

Mathura traders have announced a major protest march on June 18 over road construction delays, drainage issues, property tax disputes, alleged misconduct by municipal enforcement teams, and other long-pending civic concerns

[41,2007
826,684,2011,2014,2012,213,2009,291,2010,2013
post-3468","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mathura-local-news","category-civic-issues","tag-business-community","tag-civic-issues","tag-holi-gate","tag-local-updates","tag-mathura-market-news","tag-mathura-news","tag-mathura-traders-protest","tag-nagar-nigam-mathura","tag-road-construction-mathura","tag-trade-association
["GET
