Agra Woman Held After Husband’s Skeleton Found Buried Beneath Bathroom Floor

Agra / Mathura / Firozabad: A shocking murder case has emerged from Agra, where police recovered the skeletal remains of a missing man from beneath the bathroom floor of his own house. The recovery was made after investigators questioned the victim’s wife, who has been taken into custody for interrogation.

The case has drawn attention due to the alleged attempt to conceal the crime for nearly one-and-a-half months by portraying the victim as a missing person.

How the Case Unfolded

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Surendra Sharma (44), a resident of Renuka Dham Colony in Sikandra, Agra. Investigators said Surendra was allegedly addicted to alcohol, leading to frequent disputes with his wife, Ruby.

Police suspect that during one such dispute on 18 May, Ruby allegedly mixed more than 20 sleeping pills into kheer served to her husband. Investigators believe the overdose resulted in his death. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after forensic examination and post-mortem findings.

Body Allegedly Buried Inside Bathroom

According to the investigation so far, the accused allegedly dug a pit inside the bathroom of the house, buried the body and later got the floor reconstructed in an attempt to destroy evidence.

Police said the woman subsequently informed family members that her husband had left home after taking ₹3,000 and later filed a missing person complaint on 26 May, allegedly to avoid suspicion.

Verification Visit Exposed the Mystery

The investigation took a dramatic turn when police visited the residence during verification related to an old criminal case registered against Surendra in 2017.

Officials stated that the woman’s behaviour raised suspicion during the visit. According to police, she later disclosed the incident to a family member, following which information was shared with investigators.

Police subsequently excavated the bathroom floor and recovered human skeletal remains, which have been sent for forensic examination and post-mortem.

Financial Angle Also Under Investigation

Investigators are also examining whether a dispute over the monthly pension received by Surendra’s mother formed part of the motive. Police clarified that all possible angles, including domestic disputes and financial issues, are being investigated.

Police Statement

According to ACP Hariparvat Ameesha Singh, the accused woman is in police custody and is being questioned. She stated that the investigation is based on preliminary findings, forensic evidence and post-mortem results. Police are also examining whether any other individual was involved in the alleged crime.

Important Note on Crime Statistics

While various media reports have discussed trends relating to homicide within marital relationships, the numerical claims circulating on social media and in unofficial reports regarding annual cases and multi-year totals have not been independently verified in this report. Official crime trends should be interpreted using authenticated data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and investigating agencies.

Investigation Continues

Police have stated that further legal action will depend on forensic findings, post-mortem results and the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not yet announced whether additional arrests will be made.
