International Yoga Week Begins at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura
Mathura, June 15, 2026: The week-long celebrations leading up to the 12th International Yoga Day 2026 commenced on Monday at the sacred premises of Yogiraj Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple in Mathura. The opening ceremony was held in a spiritually uplifting atmosphere with the participation of public representatives, district officials, yoga practitioners, and local residents.
The inaugural programme was attended by Baldev MLA Puran Prakash along with senior district administration officials, marking the beginning of a series of yoga-related activities scheduled across Mathura district from June 15 to June 21, 2026.
Traditional Beginning with Dhanvantari Worship
The event began with the worship of Lord Dhanvantari, followed by ceremonial lamp lighting and the recitation of Dhanvantari Vandana. The rituals highlighted the connection between India’s traditional healthcare systems and the practice of yoga.
Regional Ayurvedic and Unani Officer Dr. Digambar Singh welcomed the guests by presenting ceremonial stoles and expressed gratitude for their participation in the programme.
Mass Yoga Session Held Under Common Yoga Protocol
Following the inaugural ceremony, a large-scale yoga session was conducted under the Common Yoga Protocol. A significant number of citizens, devotees, and yoga enthusiasts participated in the event.
Yoga trainers guided participants through various asanas and breathing exercises while explaining their physical and mental health benefits. The session also focused on the fundamental principles of yoga and its importance in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The programme aimed to encourage regular yoga practice as an effective tool for improving overall well-being and preventing lifestyle-related health issues.
Yoga Activities Launched Across Mathura District
As part of the Yoga Week celebrations, yoga programmes were simultaneously launched across all development blocks and tehsils of the district.
Special yoga sessions are being organized at several public and community locations, including:

- River Ghats
- District Jail
- Juvenile Observation Homes
- Social Welfare Department Hostels
- Schools for Differently-Abled Students
- Raman Reti and other prominent locations
The district-wide initiative aims to expand awareness about yoga and encourage participation from all sections of society.
MLA Encourages Public Participation
Addressing the gathering, MLA Puran Prakash urged citizens to incorporate yoga into their daily routines and highlighted its role in promoting physical fitness and mental wellness.
He also appealed to residents of the district to participate in large numbers in the main International Yoga Day programme scheduled for June 21, 2026.
The MLA emphasized that yoga is one of India’s most valuable contributions to global health and should become an integral part of everyday life.

Regional Ayurvedic and Unani Officer Dr. Digambar Singh thanked District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh and Chief Development Officer Pooja Gupta for their guidance and support in organizing the programme.
He also acknowledged the contribution of Project Director (DRDA), District Programme Manager Akhilesh Kumar Vishwakarma, yoga instructors, healthcare professionals, and departmental staff who helped ensure the successful launch of Yoga Week activities.
