MP Pilgrim Dies After Electrocution Near ISKCON Temple in Vrindavan

Vrindavan, June 16, 2026: A 21-year-old pilgrim from Madhya Pradesh lost his life after allegedly receiving an electric shock from a cooling unit installed near the entrance area of the ISKCON Temple in Vrindavan on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Avigyan Gupta, a resident of Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh. He had arrived in Vrindavan with his father, Amit Kumar Gupta, for darshan of prominent temples in the holy town.

Incident Occurred Near Footwear Deposit Area

According to family members, the father and son had completed darshan at Shri Banke Bihari Temple and later reached the ISKCON Temple.

While depositing their footwear near the designated shoe stand, Avigyan reportedly came into contact with a water cooler installed close to the facility. Family members alleged that the equipment had an electric current running through it.

Witnesses stated that the young man screamed after receiving the shock. His father attempted to rescue him but was also affected by the current and reportedly fell backward during the attempt.

Local people immediately rushed to help and the injured youth was taken to the District Joint Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Father Describes the Incident

Speaking after the incident, the victim’s father Amit Kumar Gupta said that both had come to Vrindavan for darshan and were removing their footwear near the shoe stand when the accident occurred.

According to him, when his son approached the cooling unit, he suddenly became trapped by the electric current. He further claimed that he also received a shock while trying to pull his son away from the equipment.

The family has demanded accountability and a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident.

Questions Raised Over Public Safety Measures

The cooling equipment had reportedly been installed to provide relief to devotees during the summer season. Following the incident, local residents and visitors expressed concern over the maintenance and safety of electrical equipment installed at public religious sites, particularly during the monsoon period.

Several devotees present at the scene questioned whether proper inspection and electrical safety checks had been conducted before the equipment was put into use.

Police Begin Investigation

Police officials reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The body was taken into custody and sent for further legal formalities.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the electrocution and whether any negligence contributed to the tragedy.

Officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
