Traffic Police Crack Down on E-Rickshaws in Vrindavan
Mathura: In an effort to improve traffic management and ensure smoother movement in the Vrindavan area, Mathura Traffic Police carried out a special enforcement drive against e-rickshaw and auto-rickshaw operators found violating traffic regulations. The campaign was conducted under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar and supervised by the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and Circle Officer (Traffic).
The special checking drive was conducted on the Shau Saiyya–Prem Mandir route and the Chhatikara–Prem Mandir corridor, both of which witness heavy tourist and local traffic throughout the day.
106 Vehicles Seized, 167 Challans Issued
According to the Traffic Police, strict action was taken against e-rickshaw and auto-rickshaw drivers operating on unauthorised routes. During the campaign, 106 e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws were seized, while 167 vehicles were issued challans for violating traffic regulations.
In addition to the route-specific violations, action was also taken against motorists violating other provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. A total of 483 additional vehicles were penalised during the operation.
Overall, the enforcement drive resulted in action against more than 650 vehicles, reflecting the administration’s intensified focus on maintaining orderly traffic in the district.
Drivers Also Given Safety Awareness
Alongside enforcement, Traffic Police officials conducted awareness activities for drivers. Using the public address (PA) system, officials instructed e-rickshaw and auto-rickshaw operators to strictly follow the routes prescribed by the administration and cooperate in maintaining smooth traffic flow.
Drivers were advised to avoid unauthorised routes, follow traffic signs and comply with instructions issued by traffic personnel, especially in high-footfall areas around Vrindavan’s major temples.
Campaign to Continue
Police officials stated that similar enforcement drives will continue across the district to improve road discipline and reduce congestion in busy religious and tourist areas. The administration has appealed to all commercial vehicle operators to comply with traffic rules and operate only on approved routes to avoid legal action.
Why the Drive Matters
Vrindavan attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists every day, making traffic management a significant challenge for the administration. Authorities believe that strict enforcement against route violations and unsafe driving practices will help improve road safety, reduce congestion and ensure smoother movement for residents and visitors alike.
