Mathura Directs Departments to Activate Rainwater Harvesting Systems Before Monsoon

Mathura, July 3: Ahead of the monsoon season, Chief Development Officer (CDO) Dr. Pooja Gupta has directed all heads of government departments in the district to ensure that rooftop rainwater harvesting systems and other rainwater conservation structures installed on government and semi-government buildings are fully functional before the onset of rains.

The directive has been issued to strengthen rainwater conservation and groundwater recharge as part of the district’s efforts to address the growing water crisis.

Inspection, Repair and Maintenance Ordered

The CDO instructed all departments to immediately inspect the rainwater harvesting systems installed under their jurisdiction and complete cleaning, repair and maintenance work wherever required.

She emphasised that every component of the system should remain operational so that maximum rainwater can be collected and groundwater recharge can be enhanced during the rainy season.

The administration believes that proper maintenance of these structures will help maximise rainwater storage and improve groundwater levels in the district.

Appeal to Citizens

Dr. Pooja Gupta also appealed to residents of Mathura to actively participate in rainwater conservation and make it a public movement. She encouraged citizens to adopt rainwater harvesting measures at homes, institutions and commercial establishments.

She said water conservation is the responsibility of every citizen and stressed that collective public participation is essential for improving groundwater levels in the long term.
