Union Home Minister Marks Raksha Bandhan With Young Type-1 Diabetes Patients in Ahmedabad
Union Home Minister Amit Shah celebrated Raksha Bandhan in Ahmedabad by launching a free, lifelong insulin support program for Type-1 diabetes patients.
Mathura, August 29, 2026: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan in Ahmedabad by meeting with young girls from his parliamentary constituency who are living with Type-1 diabetes. The event highlighted a government-led medical support initiative aimed at assisting children managing the chronic condition.
In a statement shared on social media platform ‘X’, Shri Amit Shah noted the significant financial strain that Type-1 diabetes places on families, as children require lifelong insulin injections to manage the disease. He emphasized that the current government, under the leadership of Modi ji, has committed to providing free, lifelong insulin coverage for all such children. The Union Home Minister described this program as a visionary initiative, suggesting it aligns with the government’s core principles of service, compassion, and security. He further added that such efforts are currently being pursued by many developed nations as well.

During the gathering, the Minister extended his personal well-wishes to the girls, expressing his hope for their continued good health and a bright future.
The support program specifically targets children aged 0 to 18 years living within the Gandhinagar parliamentary constituency. According to the provided details, an integrated, end-to-end system has been established to ensure these children receive consistent care. This framework covers the entire medical process, starting from initial screening and diagnosis, moving through the provision of essential insulin and treatment, and concluding with ongoing monitoring and follow-up care.
Reflecting on the importance of the initiative during the festival, Shri Amit Shah remarked that for the government, public service is a guiding principle of compassionate governance rather than just a responsibility. He stated that the security of the family and society is dependent on the health of its daughters, noting that the free insulin program serves as a symbol of the government’s commitment to their protection and well-being.
