Barsana, September 18, 2026: As the auspicious occasion of Radhashtami approaches, the local administration in Mathura is bracing for an unprecedented surge in pilgrims visiting the holy town of Barsana. Official projections indicate that approximately 30 to 35 lakh devotees are expected to arrive this year to offer their prayers. This marks a significant increase from previous years, with figures having climbed from 10 lakh to over 35 lakh within a three-year span. To manage this massive influx, the district administration has initiated a comprehensive security and logistics plan, ensuring that the religious observance proceeds safely and smoothly for all participants.

Comprehensive Security and Surveillance Strategy

Extensive high-level meetings have been conducted to finalize the preparations, with officials continuously inspecting the temple premises and the surrounding fair grounds. The primary objective is to maintain strict oversight of the arrangements through real-time monitoring. Central to this strategy is a state-of-the-art surveillance network, with 325 CCTV cameras installed across Barsana to keep a vigilant eye on the crowd movement. A centralized control room has been established at the PWD Guest House to manage the feeds from these cameras and coordinate emergency responses. Furthermore, authorities have deployed drone surveillance at three key locations to monitor the density of crowds from the air, ensuring a swift response to any potential bottleneck or emergency.

To bolster the local security apparatus, significant reinforcements have been brought in from the Agra zone. The deployment includes eight Additional Superintendents of Police, 36 Circle Officers, and approximately 3,000 police personnel stationed across the town. Additionally, emergency preparedness has been prioritized with 10 ambulances and 10 fire brigade units positioned at strategic points throughout the fair zone to handle any medical or safety contingencies.

Traffic Management and Crowd Control Protocols

Managing the flow of millions of people is a logistical challenge that the administration has addressed through meticulous planning. To prevent overcrowding inside the Shriji Temple, officials have implemented a structured entry and exit system. Devotees will access the temple via two designated paths: the Shriji Gate and Pili Kothi. For exits, a single-direction route leading toward the Jaipur temple has been established. Across the wider fair area, 38 holding zones have been created to regulate the movement of pilgrims in manageable segments.

Addressing the challenges of vehicle congestion, SP Dehat Suresh Chand रावत stated that a complete restriction on all types of vehicles will be in force starting from 8:00 PM on Thursday. By 8:00 AM on Friday, this prohibition will extend to motorcycles and e-rickshaws, ensuring the internal roads of the town remain clear for pedestrian traffic. Barsana Police Station In-charge Ajit Singh confirmed that 88 barriers and 50 parking sites have been set up to streamline vehicle flow. Specifically, parking for VIP vehicles has been designated at the Yadav Mohalla intersection and the PWD site. To further assist with traffic, all community kitchens, known as bhandaras, have been relocated outside the main town limits.

Support for Residents and Special Groups

While the administration prioritizes visitor safety, the needs of the local community have not been overlooked. To prevent unnecessary hardship for residents, the local authorities will issue entry passes based on Aadhar card verification, ensuring that locals are permitted access at designated times. Additionally, provisions have been made for third-gender devotees, who will be guided through a dedicated queue for darshan, ensuring an inclusive experience for all who wish to honor the occasion. Through this rigorous combination of logistical planning, technology, and human resources, the district administration aims to uphold the sanctity of Radhashtami while ensuring the well-being of every pilgrim and resident in Barsana.
