Govardhan, October 1, 2026: A 20-year-old man was killed on Wednesday in Borapa village, located within the Govardhan tehsil area of Mathura, after coming into contact with a high-voltage electricity line. The victim, identified as Rupesh, son of Sardar Singh, was reportedly performing maintenance work on a trolley when the fatal incident occurred. As he climbed up to adjust a mesh component, he inadvertently came into contact with an overhead 11,000-volt power line passing directly above the vehicle. The intensity of the electrical discharge caused severe burns, leading to his death at the scene.

Community Outrage and Claims of Negligence

The incident has sparked widespread anger among the residents of Borapa and the family members of the deceased. Locals gathered at the site shortly after the accident, alleging that the power lines in the area have been dangerously low-hanging for an extended period. According to villagers, multiple formal complaints regarding the hazardous state of these lines had been submitted to the electricity department and the local Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO). Furthermore, the village head (Gram Pradhan), identified as Tej Singh, reportedly stated that he had raised the issue of the dangling wires with the authorities on several previous occasions without seeing any corrective action taken.

Adding to the tension at the scene, villagers claimed that nearly two hours elapsed after the tragedy before any official from the electricity department arrived to assess the situation. This perceived delay in the administration’s response further fueled the frustration of the grieving crowd, who demanded immediate accountability for the lack of maintenance that contributed to this loss of life.

Official Response and Investigation

Local political figures and administrative officials arrived at the location as the situation unfolded. Chaudhary Vipin Singh, the Block Pramukh of Govardhan, reached the village to offer his condolences to the bereaved family and to address the concerns of the residents. Additionally, the Tehsildar of Govardhan visited the incident site to conduct an initial review of the circumstances surrounding the death.

As of the latest reports, the community is insisting on strict disciplinary action against the specific Junior Engineer (JE) and the SDO responsible for the maintenance of power infrastructure in that sector. Officials have indicated that a formal investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and to identify any lapses in duty that may have allowed the power lines to remain in such a precarious position. The authorities noted that the question of departmental responsibility and liability will only be clearly established once this inquiry process is completed and the findings are reviewed. The family of the deceased remains in deep mourning while the village continues to press for structural safety improvements to prevent future accidents of this nature in the Govardhan region.
