Mathura, September 29, 2026: Mathura police have arrested two men on charges of smuggling illicit narcotics following an operation conducted late on the night of September 27, 2026. The arrests were made by a police team from the Refinery police station, who intercepted the suspects as they were traveling along the National Highway 19, near the Kia Motors dealership. According to official reports, the individuals were apprehended while in possession of a significant quantity of contraband and were also using a commercial vehicle to transport the illegal goods.

Details of the Operation and Seizure

The police operation took place at approximately 23.38 hours on September 27, 2026, about 60 meters from the Kia Motors location on NH-19. During the course of the inspection, the law enforcement team recovered 2045 grams of an illegal substance, identified by authorities as ganja. Alongside the narcotics, the police also seized a truck, bearing the registration number UP84T0254, which officials believe was utilized by the suspects in the commission of the crime.

Following the seizure, both suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Refinery police station for further questioning and legal processing. A formal case has been registered under crime number 304/2026, invoking sections 8, 20, and 60 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This legislative framework is designed to address the illicit trafficking and possession of controlled substances within the country.

Identification of the Accused

The individuals arrested during the late-night operation have been identified by police records as Vireesh, son of Banwari, a resident of Ibrahimpur under the Mahavan police station area in Mathura district, who is approximately 34 years of age. The second suspect, Gajendra, son of Babulal, is a resident of Sultanpur, located within the jurisdiction of the Sahpau police station in Hathras district, and is approximately 35 years old. Following their arrest, both men were placed under formal investigation in accordance with standard legal procedures mandated for NDPS Act violations.

Law Enforcement Response

The arrest was executed by a dedicated team of officers from the Refinery police station. The operation was led by the Station House Officer (SHO), Ajay Kaushal. Other members of the team included Sub-Inspector Vikrant Tomar, Sub-Inspector Rohit Ujjwal, and Sub-Inspector Tejendra Singh. Supporting personnel involved in the apprehension included Constable 1587 Nitesh Malik, Reserve Constable 474 Ritik Chahal, Reserve Constable 362 Arpit Kumar, and Reserve Constable 395 Ashish Yadav.
