Govardhan Police Arrest 59-Year-Old Man with 345 Grams of Alprazolam

Mathura News, September 3, 2026: In a significant crackdown on the illicit drug trade, personnel from the Govardhan police station in Mathura arrested a 59-year-old man on September 2, 2026, for the possession of illegal narcotics. The arrest was executed under the district-wide Operation Prahar, an ongoing initiative led by Mathura law enforcement aimed at dismantling the distribution networks of banned substances across the region. Authorities identified the accused as Jamuna Prasad, a resident of Mahal Badan Singh, Bara Darwaza in Govardhan.

Operation Details and Seizure

The operation unfolded at approximately 5:30 PM on September 2, following a specific tip-off received by local law enforcement officers. Acting on this intelligence, a police team stationed themselves near the Neemgaon intersection, monitoring the stretch toward the Sakarva bypass. As the suspect approached from the direction of Sakarva on a scooter, officers intercepted him for questioning and a subsequent search. During the inspection, police discovered 345 grams of Alprazolam, a controlled sedative, in the suspect’s possession. In addition to the illicit powder, the authorities confiscated the scooter, which bears the registration number UP 85 CY 1224.

Background and Legal Proceedings

Following the seizure of the contraband and the vehicle, Jamuna Prasad was taken into custody. Law enforcement officials have since registered a case against him at the Govardhan police station under sections 21 and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The documentation process included noting the vehicle’s specific identification markers, including the chassis number MD626AK44S3H12621 and engine number EK4HS3508276. This arrest serves as the latest development in a series of police actions intended to curb the proliferation of narcotics in the holy town of Govardhan.

Official records from the Mathura Police indicate that the accused has a prior history of criminal involvement. According to the police report, Jamuna Prasad has faced multiple legal actions in the past, including cases related to the Indian Penal Code and earlier instances involving drug-related charges. Specifically, he was previously booked in case numbers 216/2002 and 217/2002 regarding charges including extortion, intimidation, and criminal offences. Furthermore, records show he was previously investigated in case number 646/2025 under sections 21 and 22 of the NDPS Act, highlighting a recurring pattern of alleged involvement in illegal activities over the past two decades.

The successful operation was conducted by a dedicated police team led by Sub-Inspector Vipin Kumar. He was supported in the field by Constable Rahul Kumar and Constable Sunil Kumar, all of whom are attached to the Govardhan police station.
