Mathura Police Seize 26kg Ganja in Operation Prahar, One Arrested

Mathura, August 29, 2026: In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking within the region, the Mathura police force successfully apprehended a suspect in possession of over 26 kilograms of illegal ganja. The arrest was executed on August 29, 2026, as part of the ongoing statewide anti-crime initiative known as Operation Prahar. The seizure represents a major blow to illegal drug distribution networks operating along the high-traffic corridors of Mathura district, which remain a primary focus for local law enforcement agencies aiming to curb the illicit trade of intoxicating substances.

Details of the Operation and Arrest

The operation was carried out by a coordinated team of officers from the Kosi Kalan police station in conjunction with the local excise department. According to the official press release issued by the Mathura Police, the authorities intercepted the suspect at approximately 16:15 hours. The location of the arrest was identified as the vicinity near the N.H. 19 mazar, situated roughly 100 meters past the railway line on the route leading from Delhi toward Mathura. This specific stretch of the highway has been under increased surveillance due to its strategic importance in transit routes.

The individual taken into custody has been identified as 26-year-old Vipin, the son of Jagveer Singh. While official records indicate that Vipin is originally from Parsoili village, located within the jurisdiction of the Nauhjhil police station area in Mathura, he had been residing more recently in the Township Raj City Colony under the Highway police station area. The search of the suspect resulted in the discovery of exactly 26 kilograms and 728 grams of contraband ganja, which was immediately confiscated by the officers present at the scene.

Legal Proceedings and Criminal History

Following the successful recovery of the illegal substance, the police registered a formal case under FIR No. 595/2026 at the Kosi Kalan police station. The charges invoked against the suspect include Section 8 and Section 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which carries stringent penalties for the possession and transport of illicit narcotics. Authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody, and all necessary legal procedures, including interrogation and documentation, are being meticulously handled by the investigative team.

The arrest has brought further attention to the suspect’s prior criminal background, which is already being factored into the current investigation. Aside from the newly registered NDPS case, records show that Vipin has a history involving violence and public disturbance within the district. Specifically, he is listed in connection with FIR No. 118/2024 at the Kosi Kalan police station, which pertains to offences under Sections 147, 148, 323, 324, 325, 504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The arresting party was led by Bhushan Verma, the Circle Officer (CO) of Chhata, alongside Excise Inspector Amit Kumar Singh. The operational field team from Kosi Kalan police station included In-charge Inspector Kamlesh Singh, Sub-Inspector Uttam Chauhan, Head Constable Satish Chand, Head Constable Abhishek Siwach, and Constable Sonu Kapadiya. They were also supported by Constable Sushil Kumar from the Excise Department.

Local authorities emphasize that Operation Prahar will continue to target such illegal activities with high intensity across all sectors of Mathura. By disrupting supply lines and identifying habitual offenders, the police aim to maintain public order and reduce the prevalence of narcotics in the area.
