Mathura District Jail Organizes Special Raksha Bandhan Meeting for Inmates and Families
Mathura District Jail hosted a special Raksha Bandhan event, allowing inmates to reunite with families through organized, secure visitations.

Mathura, August 28, 2026: The Mathura District Jail recently hosted a special open-meeting event to mark the festival of Raksha Bandhan, providing an opportunity for inmates to reconnect with their families. During this occasion, a large number of women and children visited the prison to celebrate the tradition of sisters tying rakhis on their brothers’ wrists. The event served as an emotional reunion for many families who had been separated for a significant period.
To ensure the safety and convenience of all visitors, the prison administration implemented a series of organized measures. Given the high volume of attendees, the facility managed the crowd by allowing entry in specific batches. Visitors were required to wait for one group’s meeting to conclude before the next batch was permitted to enter the premises. This systematic approach helped the administration maintain order throughout the day.

The jail complex was equipped with tents and coolers, and arrangements were made to provide drinking water and light refreshments to those traveling from distant areas. Several social welfare organizations assisted the jail authorities in facilitating these logistics.
In a move to support the spirit of the festival, the administration ensured that no sister would be left without a rakhi if she had forgotten to bring one. The facility provided rakhis at no cost, which were handcrafted by female inmates currently held at the district jail. By contributing their own work to the celebration, these women played an active role in the festivities.
According to prison officials, open-meeting arrangements of this nature are held only twice a year. Consequently, the Raksha Bandhan event held significant importance for the inmates and their relatives, offering a rare opportunity for them to spend quality time together and honor the traditions of the festival. Throughout the proceedings, the prison administration focused on balancing the necessary security protocols with humanitarian considerations.
