About the Agarwal Samaj
The Agarwal (Agrawal) Samaj is one of the most prominent communities of the Vaishya Samaj, known across India and abroad for its contribution to trade, industry, education and social service. MathuraNow covers news of the Agarwal community along with wider Vaishya Samaj programs in which Agarwal organisations take part.
The Agarwal community traces its origin to Maharaja Agrasen, the legendary king of Agroha (in present-day Haryana), known for the principles of equality, cooperation and service. Agroha Dham remains a major centre of faith for the community. Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti is celebrated every year on Ashwin Shukla Pratipada, the first day of Navratri, with shobhayatras and programs across India and abroad.
The community is traditionally associated with 18 gotras: Garg, Goyal, Goyan (Gangal), Bansal, Kansal, Singhal, Mangal, Jindal, Tingal, Airan, Dharan, Madhukul, Bindal, Mittal, Tayal, Bhandal, Nangal and Kuchhal.
