Mathura, September 17, 2026: Preparations are officially underway for the upcoming 21-day Ramlila Mahotsav in Mathura, an annual cultural event organized under the auspices of the Shri Ramlila Sabha (Reg.). The festival is scheduled to commence on October 3 and will continue through October 23, 2026. According to organizers, the artistic rehearsals, known as ‘taalim’, for the participating actors are set to take place at Chitrakoot Masani between September 20 and September 30.

A Traditional Performance Schedule

The Shri Ramlila Sabha has meticulously mapped out the progression of the epic, ensuring each day highlights a significant chapter of the Ramayana. The festival begins on October 3 with the Mukut Pujan. Subsequent highlights include the life character of Goswami Tulsidas on October 4, the Shiv-Parvati wedding on October 5, and the Ram Janam on October 7. The intensity of the performances will escalate with events like the Dhanush Yagna on October 10 and the Ram Barat and wedding of Shri Ram-Janaki on October 11. The narrative will continue through the Vanvas, the Sita Haran on October 15, and the iconic Lanka Dahan on October 17. The festival culminates in the Dussehra Mela on October 20, the Bharat Milap on October 21, the grand Coronation (Rajyabhishek) on October 22, and a closing peace prayer and cultural program on October 23.

Venues and Organizational Efforts

The Mahotsav will utilize several prominent locations across Mathura to host the diverse stages of the epic. Performances from October 3 to October 13 are scheduled to be held at the Shri Krishna Janmasthan Lila Manch. From October 14 to October 19, the venue will shift to the Chitrakoot Lila Manch in Masani. Furthermore, specific scenes between October 18 and 20 are slated for the Ramlila Maidan in Mahavidya. The traditional Bharat Milap will take place at the Chowk Bazaar intersection on October 21, followed by the coronation at the Shri Krishna Janmasthan on October 22. The final day’s proceedings are reserved for Chitrakoot Masani.

Leadership and Community Involvement

During a preparatory meeting held at the Chitrakoot Masani site, Sabha Chairman Jayanti Prasad Agarwal and General Secretary Moolchand Garg emphasized the commitment of all members to making this year’s festival particularly grand and divine. Gopeshwar Nath Chaturvedi highlighted that the planning committee has been working diligently to ensure the production quality meets the high expectations of the local community. The meeting was attended by a wide range of representatives, including Deputy Chairman Jugal Kishore Agarwal, Minister Vijay Kirodi Sarraf, Treasurer Shailesh Agarwal, and several prominent local citizens such as Pradeep Sarraf PK, Ajay Master, Gokul Chand Sarraf, Subhash Sikka, Sarvesh Sharma Advocate, Krishna Murari Netaji, Hari Om Agarwal (Mant), Vijay Bahadur, Praveen Agarwal, Pankaj Anguthi, Mukesh Kosi, Mahesh Rashanwale, Anil Dresswale, Dinesh Chaturvedi, and Pradeep Vabban. The Sabha officials have called upon all members to participate with dedication to ensure the event remains a cornerstone of Mathura’s cultural heritage.
