Travelers Face Delays and Disorganization at Mathura Old Bus Stand on Rakshabandhan

Mathura, August 28, 2026: Travelers at the old bus stand in Mathura expressed significant frustration and dissatisfaction with transport arrangements during the Rakshabandhan festival. Despite a government directive providing free bus travel for sisters and other passengers to facilitate easier movement, the ground-level implementation led to major inconvenience for those attempting to reach their destinations.

Passengers reported that bus services for the Bareilly and Aligarh routes were notably absent for periods ranging from one and a half to two hours. This lack of available transport resulted in a growing crowd of stranded travelers at the old bus stand. The situation was further exacerbated by the high volume of commuters typical of the festival period, leaving many waiting for extended periods to secure a ride.

Many passengers voiced strong criticism regarding the functioning of the transport department. Travelers pointed out that the department was already aware of the expected surge in passenger traffic during Rakshabandhan. Consequently, commuters described the failure to provide adequate bus services on major routes like Bareilly and Aligarh as incomprehensible.

The primary goal of the chief minister’s initiative for free bus travel on this occasion is to ensure safe and accessible transportation for sisters. However, travelers noted that the lack of proper local arrangements is undermining this objective, forcing them to suffer avoidable hardship.

Some passengers alleged that specific officials within the transport department have failed to show the necessary seriousness required to manage the festival-related rush. There is concern among the public that such administrative lapses convey a negative message and obstruct the effectiveness of the government’s public-welfare initiatives.

In response to the ongoing delays, travelers have formally requested that the transport department immediately ensure the operation of additional buses. They have also urged authorities to strengthen route-specific management to better accommodate the high number of passengers during the festival.
