Mathura Traders Suspend June 18 Protest After Civic Issues Meeting With Municipal Commissioner

Mathura, June 17, 2026: The proposed traders’ protest scheduled for June 18 against various civic and infrastructure issues in Mathura has been postponed after Municipal Commissioner Jag Pravesh assured representatives of the Nagar Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal that their concerns would be reviewed and necessary action would be taken.

The decision was announced following a press conference organized by the trade body at Tilakdwar Agrawal Dharamshala on June 17.

Traders Highlight Long-Pending Civic Issues

Addressing the media, Metropolitan President Sunil Agrawal, General Secretaries Shashibhanu Garg and Sunil Sahani said traders had planned a demonstration at the Municipal Corporation office over several unresolved issues affecting businesses, residents, pilgrims and commuters across the city.

The organization stated that road construction work at multiple locations has left several major routes dug up simultaneously, causing inconvenience to traders, residents and visitors. According to the memorandum submitted by the organization, incomplete road projects and pending drainage work could lead to severe waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season.

Key Issues Raised by the Trade Body

• Completion of ongoing road construction works across the city, particularly on routes connecting the Old Bus Stand, Holigate, Krishna Puri Tiraha and Bharatpur Gate.
• Immediate completion of footpaths and drainage systems on roads where construction has already been completed.
• Restoration of roads dug up for the Ganga Jal pipeline project from Masani Gurudwara to Bhuteshwar Chauraha and removal of excess construction material from roadsides.
• Formation of clear operational guidelines for enforcement teams conducting anti-encroachment and anti-plastic drives to prevent unnecessary harassment of traders.
• Regular cleaning of city drains to prevent waterlogging during the rainy season.
• Construction and covering of drains along the Bhains Bahora route, which connects Mathura Junction with several schools, colleges and residential areas.
• Resolution of pending mutation (name transfer) applications submitted by Kotwali Road traders despite payment of prescribed fees.
• Implementation of previously approved ownership rights and municipal documentation for displaced families and shopkeepers residing at Jawahar Haat.
• Addressing concerns of roadside vendors operating near Arya Samaj Ghat Road and around the District Hospital area.
• Removal of thousands of unused electricity and telephone poles across the city.
• Road construction and street-light arrangements on Agra Road and nearby areas.
• Improvement of road, drainage and street-light infrastructure in the Govind Ganj area near Holigate.
• Installation of directional signage boards on major intersections leading to Shri Dwarkadhish Temple and Shri Harihar Kshetra Temple for the convenience of pilgrims.
• Action regarding handcart vendors occupying designated vending zones near Govardhan Chauraha, which traders claim contributes to traffic congestion.

Municipal Commissioner Holds Meeting With Trade Representatives

Following the concerns raised by the trade body, Municipal Commissioner Jag Pravesh invited members of the organization for a meeting. Chief Engineer Sanjay Chauhan and officials from concerned departments were also present.

During the meeting, the Municipal Commissioner reportedly reviewed all points raised by the traders and personally noted the issues. Officials discussed civic concerns affecting both the business community and the general public.

The Commissioner directed the Chief Engineer to inspect areas including Agra Road, Kotwali Road and other locations highlighted during the discussions. He also assured traders that efforts would be made to address the issues within the next 15 days.

Proposed Protest Postponed

After the meeting, the core committee of the Nagar Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal decided to postpone the proposed June 18 demonstration until further notice.

The organization stated that it would review the progress made over the next fifteen days and then decide its future course of action.

Those present during the press conference and subsequent discussions included Sunil Agrawal, Shashibhanu Garg, Sunil Sahani, Gurumukh Das, Rajveer Singh, Meenalal Agrawal, Shri Bhagwan Chaturvedi, Vikas Jindal and other office-bearers of the organization.

The trade body expressed hope that the issues raised would receive timely attention, particularly with the monsoon season approaching and several infrastructure projects still underway in different parts of Mathura.
