Modi and Putin Hold Bilateral Talks During BRICS Summit in New Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin met in New Delhi during the 18th BRICS Summit to discuss bilateral and global ties.

New Delhi, September 13, 2026: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, today in New Delhi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit, marking the second time the two leaders have met within this calendar year. Their previous encounter occurred on August 31, 2026, in Bishkek, during the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
During their latest discussion, the two leaders conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation across several critical sectors. Their dialogue covered progress in political and economic ties, as well as joint efforts in the domains of defence, energy, space, and skill mobility. Furthermore, the leaders assessed the status of people-to-people connections between the two nations.

A key point of their discussion focused on the “INNOPROM India” exhibition, Russia’s international industrial showcase. Held for the first time in India from September 9 to 11, 2026, the event was highlighted by both leaders as a significant development for the expansion of trade and industrial cooperation. To mark the importance of the exhibition, the Prime Minister and the President visited the venue together and engaged with the various participants on-site.
The meeting also provided a platform for the leaders to exchange views regarding multilateral engagements. Specifically, they discussed the BRICS framework under India’s 2026 Chairship. The conversation extended to regional and global issues, with a particular focus on the conflicts currently affecting West Asia and the Black Sea region. The leaders noted that these conflicts have negatively impacted maritime trade, posing challenges to the safety and security of Indian seafarers.
Regarding these ongoing global tensions, the Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s position that dialogue and diplomacy are the necessary paths toward resolution. He further expressed that India remains ready to provide assistance in any peace efforts.

The two leaders concluded their meeting by agreeing to maintain ongoing engagement to strengthen the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” between their countries. They characterized this partnership as having shown significant growth and resilience despite the pressures of geopolitical uncertainties.
Following the discussions, President Putin extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Russia for the 24th India-Russia Annual Summit. The Prime Minister accepted this invitation, with both sides agreeing that the specific dates for the summit will be finalized later through official diplomatic channels.
