Four Students Die After Entering Underground Water Tank in Vrindavan Gurukul
Four students died and one was critically injured after entering a 12-foot-deep water tank at a Vrindavan gurukul for cleaning on Monday night.

Vrindavan, October 7, 2026: A tragic incident occurred at the Maharishi Parini Sanskrit Gurukulam in Chaitanya Vihar, Vrindavan, late Monday night, resulting in the deaths of four students. The victims lost their lives after entering an underground water tank to perform cleaning work, where they were suspected to be overcome by toxic gases.
Details of the Incident
According to official sources, the incident took place around 10:00 p.m. on Monday. The gurukul, which is operated by Ashish Kumar Sharma and houses approximately 100 students out of 200 enrolled, had an underground water tank that had been emitting a foul odor. In an attempt to address this, students entered the tank, which is reported to be approximately 12 to 14 feet deep. When the first student failed to emerge, other students entered the confined space in a rescue attempt, eventually leading to all five being affected by the environment inside.

Police and relief teams were dispatched immediately upon receiving the report, extracting the unconscious students and transporting them to the hospital.
Casualties and Medical Status
Tragically, doctors at the district hospital declared four students dead upon arrival. The deceased have been identified as Manu Katare, Devansh, Vishu, and Aryan. All four were reported to be in the age range of 16 to 20 years. A fifth student, identified as Rudra, who is approximately 15 years old, survived the incident. He was initially admitted to the district hospital and has since been referred to a higher facility to ensure better monitoring and specialized care. He was reported to be conscious and communicating at the time of the transfer.
Administrative Response and Investigation
The incident has drawn swift action from the district administration. Senior police officials and District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh arrived at the site to inspect the premises and oversee the initial investigation. CCTV footage from the location is being analyzed to reconstruct the timeline of events. Authorities are also verifying the institution’s registration and operational status. “We are in the process of contacting the families of the victims,” said police officials, noting that further legal action will follow once formal complaints are received from the families.
The District Magistrate emphasized that the administration is treating the matter with extreme urgency, adhering to instructions from the Chief Minister to provide all necessary support and medical treatment. Moving forward, the administration plans to conduct a thorough audit of such residential setups to ensure that safety protocols are strictly implemented and to prevent any recurrence of such a heart-wrenching tragedy. The bodies have been moved to the mortuary for post-mortem examinations as part of the ongoing investigation.
