Mathura, October 6, 2026: A profoundly moving theatrical portrayal of the divine episodes of Narad Moh and the birth of Ravana captivated audiences during a recent cultural performance in Mathura Ram Leela Mahotsav. The enactment traced the mythological journey of sage Narad, beginning with his deep meditation on the banks of the Bhagirathi River in the Himalayan caves. The narrative unfolded as Narad’s intense penance caused concern in the celestial realm, prompting Lord Indra to fear for his throne. Despite efforts by Kamadeva and celestial nymphs to disrupt the sage’s focus, Narad remained steadfast. However, his triumph over worldly desires eventually led to the development of deep-seated pride within him—a spiritual flaw that forms the heart of this ancient narrative.

The Lesson of Humility and Divine Intervention

The play depicted how Narad, blinded by his perceived victory over passion and anger, approached Lord Shiva and later Lord Vishnu to boast of his accomplishments. Sensing Narad’s growing arrogance, Lord Vishnu orchestrated a divine illusion, creating a city where the sage was enchanted by the beauty of Princess Vishwamohini. In a moment of vulnerability, Narad requested a form as beautiful as the Lord’s to win her hand, but was instead granted the face of a monkey. When Vishwamohini eventually chose Lord Vishnu at her swayamvar, a humiliated Narad cursed the Lord, predicting that monkeys would one day aid him and that he would suffer the pain of separation from his wife. As the divine curtain of illusion fell, the sage sought forgiveness, marking a pivotal moment of repentance in the story.

The Saga of Births and Celestial Conflict

The performance further delved into the lineage of the Ramayana by portraying the intense penance of King Manu. After transferring his kingdom to his son Uttanpada, the king sought the blessing of the divine trinity, leading to the promise of Lord Vishnu’s incarnation as Shri Ram. The play transitioned into the rise of the antagonist, documenting the birth of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Vibhishana. The stage presentation highlighted Ravana’s conquest of the heavens through sheer physical might and his subsequent marriage to Mandodari, the daughter of Mayadanava, setting the stage for the epic conflict to follow.

The event was marked by meticulous coordination and community participation. Prasad arrangements were handled by Chaudhary Trilokinath and Chaudhary Rakesh Kumar Sarraf, ensuring attendees received blessings following the conclusion of the scenes. The production was steered by a dedicated committee, including policy director Gopeshwar Nath Chaturvedi, chairman Jayanti Prasad Agarwal, vice-chairman Jugal Kishore Agarwal, and general secretary Moolchand Garg. Other key organizers who contributed to the success of the evening included Pradeep Sarraf P.K., Vijay Sarraf Kirori, and treasurer Shailesh Agarwal Sarraf, alongside numerous local community leaders and volunteers who ensured the seamless execution of the traditional performance.

As the program continues, upcoming events remain highly anticipated by the public. According to the official schedule provided by publicity secretary Pandit Shashank Pathak, the Akasvani Leela is scheduled for October 7 at 5:00 PM in Askunda Bazaar. This will be followed by the Ram Janm (birth of Lord Ram) celebration, traditional बधाई (congratulatory) singing, and a special darshan featuring the Chhapan Bhog, which will take place at 7:00 PM on the Shri Krishna Janmasthan Leela stage.
