Mathura, October 3, 2026: The 21-day Shri Mathura Ram Leela Mahotsav, organized under the aegis of the Shri Ram Leela Sabha (Regd.) Mathura, officially commenced on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The annual festivities began with the sacred Mukut Pujan ceremony and a vibrant, grand Ganesh Shobha Yatra, marking the start of the cultural celebrations that attract thousands of devotees across the region.

Commencement of Sacred Rituals

The day began at 10:00 AM at the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Lila Manch, where traditional Vedic rituals were conducted. Under the guidance of priests Acharya Govind Goswami, Pranav Goswami, and Lila Swami Anil Kumar Sharma, the ceremonial Mukut Pujan was performed. The rituals included the worship of Lord Ganesha, Ambika, the Shodash Matrika, Varun, Panchomkar, and the Navagraha. Following these rites, the divine crowns, costumes, bows, arrows, maces, and tridents belonging to the characters of Lord Ram, Janki, Bharat, Lakshman, Shatrughna, Hanuman, Brahma, and Shiva were sanctified, officially binding the chosen actors to their divine roles for the duration of the 21-day festival.

Grand Ganesh Shobha Yatra

As evening approached, the festive atmosphere intensified with the commencement of the grand Ganesh Shobha Yatra at 5:00 PM from the main gate of the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi. The procession was a visual spectacle featuring an array of floats, musical bands, and traditional displays. The parade included horse-mounted flags, artistic tableaus depicting Goddess Durga, scenes from Naisemri and Rangeshwar, and a depiction of Lord Hanuman writing the Ramayana upon a mountain. Other notable floats included the Govardhan Parvat at Kusum Sarovar, the Radha Raman temple, and the Dwarkadhish temple.

The procession reached its climax with the appearance of the main chariot, where the characters portraying Lord Ram, Janki, Bharat, Lakshman, Shatrughna, and Hanuman were seated upon a majestic silver throne. The sight captivated devotees as the procession wound through the city, with residents lining the route to offer floral tributes and perform aarti for the characters. The event was supported by numerous community members, including Umesh Bijli Wale, Vishnu Sharma, Ramesh Kisso, and Nitin Sharma, who managed the intricate arrangements of the decoration and rituals.

Organizational Oversight and Future Schedule

The event saw the participation of senior officials and dignitaries of the Shri Ram Leela Sabha, including Policy Director Gopeshwar Nath Chaturvedi, Ravikant Garg, Sabha President Jayanti Prasad Agarwal, and Vice President Jugal Kishore Agarwal.
