Farmers Demand Action on Power Bills, Compensation and Corruption

Farmers Raise Compensation, Electricity and Corruption Issues Before UP Government

Mathura, 25 June 2026: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Loktantrik) Farmers has once again intensified its campaign over farmers’ issues by submitting a memorandum to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The organization has sought immediate intervention on several long-pending concerns, including compensation for crop losses, electricity-related problems, alleged administrative irregularities and issues affecting farmers in different districts of the state.

The memorandum, submitted on behalf of the organization by Mathura District President Devendra Singh, highlights grievances from districts including Gautam Buddha Nagar, Mathura, Farrukhabad and Sonbhadra. According to the union, these issues require urgent government attention to safeguard the interests of farmers and ensure timely administrative action.

One of the key demands relates to the ongoing farmers’ protest in Village Ronija of Gautam Buddha Nagar district. The organization stated that farmers have been staging a protest for the past 12 months and demanded that affected landowners be provided additional compensation along with residential plots. The memorandum urges the state government to resolve the matter through dialogue and ensure justice for the affected families.

The memorandum also raises concerns regarding an incident in Farrukhabad district’s Kayamganj tehsil. The farmers’ organization alleged that local farmers were subjected to inappropriate treatment by officials and were taken into police custody, resulting in humiliation. Based on these allegations, the union has demanded an impartial judicial inquiry into the matter and appropriate action if any wrongdoing is established.

Electricity-related issues affecting farmers and consumers in Mathura district also feature prominently in the memorandum. The organization claimed that problems associated with smart electricity meters, increased power bills and irregular electricity supply have created hardships for farmers as well as ordinary consumers. It urged the government to review the implementation of smart meters, address billing concerns and improve the reliability of power supply in rural and urban areas.

Referring to the recent hailstorm that damaged standing crops in several areas, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Loktantrik) demanded immediate assessment of agricultural losses and payment of appropriate compensation to affected farmers. The organization argued that timely financial assistance would help cultivators recover from weather-related losses and continue agricultural activities without additional economic burden.

The memorandum further highlights alleged irregularities in consolidation-related work in Bhaiswar village of Sonbhadra district. According to the union, the matter has remained unresolved for a considerable period despite repeated representations. The organization requested the Chief Minister to ensure a transparent inquiry and take corrective measures wherever necessary.

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Loktantrik) stated that farmers across the state expect prompt action on these pending issues and warned that prolonged delays could increase dissatisfaction among the farming community. As of now, the state government has not issued an official response to the memorandum or the specific demands raised by the organization. The memorandum primarily reflects the claims and demands made by the farmers’ union, while any administrative action or response from the government is awaited.
