Mathura Plans Traffic Diversions as New Bus Stand Railway Bridge Work Begins

Mathura, June 20, 2026: Authorities in Mathura have finalized a traffic management plan ahead of the upcoming railway bridge construction near the New Bus Stand, one of the city’s busiest transport corridors. A high-level review meeting was held at the District Magistrate’s office to ensure smooth traffic movement and minimize inconvenience to commuters during the construction period.

The meeting was chaired by District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh (C.P. Singh) and attended by Municipal Commissioner Jag Pravesh, SP City Rajeev Kumar, SP Traffic Rajesh Tiwari, City Magistrate Anupam Kumar Mishra, and senior officials from the Railway Department.

Railway Project Enters Final Stage

According to Municipal Commissioner Jag Pravesh, railway work near the New Bus Stand has reached its final phase and railway operations on the route are expected to begin next month.

With the railway infrastructure nearing completion, authorities are now preparing to undertake the next crucial phase — construction of the railway bridge and associated road connectivity works.

Officials acknowledged that the New Bus Stand area is one of Mathura’s most critical traffic junctions, handling daily movement of buses, commercial vehicles, local commuters and intercity traffic.

Bus Movement to Remain Suspended for 15–20 Days

To facilitate bridge construction, authorities have proposed temporary restrictions on traffic movement in the affected area.

As part of the preliminary traffic plan:

  • Bus movement through the construction zone is expected to remain suspended for approximately 15 to 20 days.
  • Heavy vehicle movement will be regulated based on traffic conditions.
  • Alternative routes will be designated for local traffic.
  • Traffic diversions will be implemented in phases to reduce congestion.

Officials said the measures are necessary to ensure both public safety and uninterrupted progress of the infrastructure project.

Alternative Routes to Be Developed

The administration has directed concerned departments to prepare diversion routes before major construction activities begin.

Municipal Commissioner Jag Pravesh said alternative traffic arrangements are being planned through Bhuri Gate and other connecting roads so that commuters can continue travelling with minimal disruption.

Field inspections and route assessments are being carried out to determine the most practical diversion plan for different categories of vehicles.

Additional Police Deployment Planned

Recognizing the traffic sensitivity of the New Bus Stand corridor, the district administration has decided to strengthen on-ground traffic management during the construction period.

Additional police personnel and traffic management staff will be deployed at key intersections and diversion points to regulate vehicle movement and prevent bottlenecks.

Officials said continuous monitoring will be carried out to ensure that emergency services, public transport and daily commuters are not significantly affected.

Target Set to Complete Work Within 15 Days

Authorities have set an ambitious target of completing the major bridge-related work within approximately 15 days.

While temporary inconvenience is expected, officials emphasized that every effort will be made to finish the project within the stipulated timeframe and restore normal traffic operations as quickly as possible.

“The project is important for the city’s future connectivity. Traffic management plans are being prepared so that people face the least possible inconvenience during the construction period,” officials said during the review meeting.

What Will Change for Commuters?

Residents and daily commuters travelling through the New Bus Stand area should prepare for temporary changes in traffic movement over the coming weeks.

  • Bus routes may be temporarily modified.
  • Travel time could increase during peak hours.
  • Certain stretches may operate under diversion arrangements.
  • Traffic police personnel will guide motorists through alternate routes.
  • Commuters are advised to follow official traffic advisories.

Why This Project Matters

The railway infrastructure project near Mathura’s New Bus Stand is expected to improve long-term transportation connectivity and support smoother rail operations in the region.

Officials believe that once completed, the bridge and associated infrastructure will help streamline traffic movement around one of the city’s most important transport hubs while supporting future urban mobility needs.

Although short-term disruptions are expected during construction, the administration maintains that the long-term benefits of improved connectivity and traffic flow will outweigh temporary inconvenience.
