Mathura Police Finalizes Massive Security Grid for Radha Ashtami in Barsana : Shri Shlok Kumar (IPS)
Mathura police Shlok Kumar have implemented a multi-layered security plan for the Radha Ashtami festival in Barsana, including seven zones and specialized unit deployment.

Barsana, September 18, 2026: Authorities in Mathura have announced a comprehensive and high-security deployment strategy ahead of the upcoming Radha Ashtami festival in Barsana. During a press briefing titled “Shri Radha Ashtami Briefing,” police officials detailed the logistical and security framework intended to manage the massive influx of pilgrims expected to visit the holy town for the annual celebrations. The security plan focuses on crowd control, traffic management, and the neutralization of potential disruptive elements to ensure the safety of devotees.
A Multi-Layered Strategic Deployment
Addressing the press, senior police official Shri Shlok Kumar (IPS) confirmed that the administrative and police forces have mapped out the festival area into seven distinct zones. This zoning system is designed to decentralize command, allowing for real-time surveillance and rapid response across the entire festival footprint. To oversee these zones, the administration is pairing senior police officers with appointed magistrates to maintain strict law and order throughout the event. In addition to uniformed officers, the police strategy incorporates significant human intelligence gathering through the deployment of personnel in plain clothes. These officers, operating discreetly within the crowds, are tasked with identifying and preventing potential security breaches before they escalate.
Specialized Units and Monitoring
Beyond standard policing, the administration has elevated the security profile by integrating specialized units into the deployment. Shlok Kumar noted that the Special Operations Group (SOG) and dedicated SWAT teams are being mobilized specifically to monitor and neutralize “anarchist elements” that may attempt to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the festival. Furthermore, the authorities have implemented a systematic monitoring process for known offenders in the region, who have been “restricted” by law enforcement to ensure they do not interfere with the pilgrimage proceedings. These measures are supported by extensive CCTV surveillance, managed from a centralized control room established specifically for the duration of the event, ensuring constant oversight of the crowd density and movement patterns.

Traffic Management and Pilgrim Logistics
Recognizing that mobility is a primary challenge during large-scale Braj festivals, the police have introduced a rigid traffic management plan. The plan institutes a single-lane traffic flow in congested areas and establishes dedicated holding areas to prevent stampede-like conditions. “No entry” zones have been strictly defined for larger vehicles, while specific sectors have been earmarked exclusively for two-wheelers to optimize space. Authorities have designated specific parking zones outside the main core of the town, transitioning to a one-way traffic system for all incoming and outgoing movement. These logistical adjustments are intended to streamline the passage of pilgrims while allowing emergency vehicles to operate unimpeded. The police are urging all attendees to strictly adhere to these demarcated zones and parking rules, emphasizing that the cooperation of the public is vital for the success of these safety measures.
Administrative Commitment to Public Safety
The security architecture is bolstered by a “sufficient” allocation of force, which includes provincial units like the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). These forces will be spread across the seven zones to provide high-visibility deterrence and physical crowd management. While the exact date on the organizational banner appeared truncated during the briefing, the focus remains firmly on providing a secure environment for the massive gathering expected for Radha Ashtami. The authorities believe that by combining high-tech surveillance with ground-level intelligence and rigid traffic controls, they can mitigate risks effectively. Pilgrims and local residents have been advised to keep identification documents handy and to follow the instructions issued by officers on the ground, particularly in the vicinity of the temple and major transit points, to ensure a smooth and safe observance of the festival.
