Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation Gears Up for ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ Campaign 2026
Municipal Commissioner Aojasvi Raj held a meeting with councilors to outline the month-long Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign starting September 17 in Mathura.

Mathura, September 16, 2026: Municipal authorities in Mathura have finalized the strategic roadmap for the upcoming national sanitation initiative, the ‘Seva Sankalp evam Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan-2026.’ Municipal Commissioner Aojasvi Raj convened a high-level meeting at the Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation headquarters, located in Bhuteshwar, to coordinate efforts with local councilors. The meeting served as a vital platform for aligning administrative goals with grassroots representation to ensure the month-long cleanliness drive achieves its objectives across the city.
Campaign Timeline and Objectives
According to the official release, the comprehensive sanitation campaign is scheduled to run from September 17 to October 17, 2026. A standout feature of this year’s initiative is the ‘157-hour Maha-Safai Abhiyan,’ a massive, intensive cleaning operation slated to take place between September 25 and October 2. The project aims to eliminate garbage vulnerable points (GVP) across the city while prioritizing the beautification of targeted sanitation units. Officials emphasized that this sustained effort will involve a systematic approach to cleaning public spaces, aiming to transform them into cleaner, more aesthetically pleasing environments for residents and pilgrims alike.

Community Engagement and Collaborative Planning
Municipal Commissioner Aojasvi Raj underscored that the campaign’s success hinges on the active participation of public representatives, municipal staff, and, most importantly, the general public. Plans are currently in place to transform this administrative mandate into a broad ‘Jan Andolan’ or public movement. The corporation intends to mobilize a diverse array of stakeholders, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local educational institutions, and various social groups, to ensure widespread community ownership of the sanitation efforts. By integrating these groups, the municipal administration hopes to foster a culture of collective responsibility toward maintaining the sanctity and cleanliness of the Braj region.
Operational Directives and Administrative Support
During the session, Additional Municipal Commissioner Smt. Sunita Singh and the Municipal Health Officer presented a detailed project report to the councilors using a formal PowerPoint presentation. The briefing highlighted specific focus areas for the campaign, including the organization of safety camps for ‘Safai Mitras,’ aggressive anti-plastic initiatives, and targeted public awareness programs designed to educate citizens on responsible waste management. Councilors provided valuable localized feedback, offering suggestions on how to improve sanitation systems within their specific wards and proposing methods to encourage greater citizen involvement. Commissioner Raj concluded the meeting by urging all municipal officials and elected representatives to maintain close coordination, asserting that inter-departmental synergy is the backbone of the campaign’s execution. The administration has called for a unified front to ensure that all planned activities are conducted with maximum efficiency during the scheduled window, reflecting the government’s commitment to urban hygiene and civic improvement. With the timeline set, the focus now shifts to the mobilization of resources and human power across all municipal zones in Mathura and Vrindavan to meet the targets before the conclusion of the campaign in mid-October.
