A student from Vrindavan has filed a formal complaint in Mathura alleging sexual assault, digital harassment, and blackmail by a male acquaintance.

Mathura / Vrindavan, August 29, 2026: A distressing case has emerged in Mathura, where a female student from Vrindavan has formally accused a male acquaintance of serious criminal acts, including sexual assault, digital surveillance, and extortion. The complainant alleges that she was drugged, sexually abused, and that the assailant recorded the act to use as leverage for ongoing blackmail. The situation has prompted local social activists to intervene, providing the student with the necessary support to approach law enforcement authorities.
Details of the Allegations
The student, who has chosen to remain anonymous for her protection, detailed the sequence of events during a media briefing held outside the Mathura Superintendent of Police (SP) office. According to her statement, the accused, identified by the victim as Sandeep Upadhyay, had previously resided in a rented room in her vicinity for a period of six months. The victim alleges that she was invited to the accused’s apartment located in the Rukmani Vihar area under a pretext. Once inside the premises, she claims that she was forcibly drugged after consuming a soft drink. It was during this period of incapacitation that the alleged sexual assault occurred and was recorded.

Furthermore, the victim alleges a sustained pattern of digital harassment. She claims that the perpetrator has not only continued to threaten her with the explicit footage but has also managed to compromise her personal digital security, specifically targeting her WhatsApp and email accounts. The student expressed a profound sense of helplessness, stating that the continuous pressure and extortion attempts by the accused had driven her to the point of contemplating self-harm.
Intervention and Police Complaint
The severity of the victim’s situation became public when she was discovered in a state of extreme distress at the Mathura Development Authority office. Pradeep Banerjee, a social worker who witnessed the victim’s condition on the day of the Eid holiday, described the encounter as heartbreaking. According to Banerjee, the student was found weeping and was clearly in a fragile emotional state, openly expressing a desire to end her life to escape the torment caused by her alleged blackmailer.
Banerjee, along with fellow social worker Mamta Gautam, intervened to provide immediate psychological support to the student. After successfully de-escalating the crisis and convincing the student not to take any drastic action, the pair escorted her to the office of the Superintendent of Police to file a formal complaint. The activists have emphasized that their primary role was to ensure the victim received the necessary platform to report her grievances to the state authorities safely. They have also indicated that the SP has provided assurances that the complaint would be investigated with the necessary urgency and diligence.
