Barsana, September 13, 2026: The district administration of Mathura is finalizing extensive arrangements for the upcoming Radhashtami festival in Barsana, which is expected to draw a massive influx of approximately 25 lakh devotees. With the event scheduled for September 18 and 19, officials are working to ensure that the surge of pilgrims is managed efficiently through a multi-layered security and traffic control plan. Given the anticipated density of crowds, authorities have demarcated the entire fair region into seven distinct zones and 20 sectors, aiming to maintain order and provide a seamless spiritual experience for those visiting the sacred birthplace of Radha Rani.

Traffic Management and Crowd Control Measures

Addressing the challenges posed by the narrow streets of Barsana, the administration is establishing 38 holding areas across the town. These zones are designed to regulate the movement of devotees, ensuring they can reach the Shriji temple in a phased, orderly manner. According to the current traffic plan, entry points have been designated at Shriji Gate, Peeli Kothi, and Lado Gate, while the exit route has been finalized via the Jaipur temple path. By enforcing a unidirectional flow of traffic, the administration aims to prevent congestion and ensure that the darshan process remains smooth and accessible for everyone, regardless of the peak crowd density during the two-day festival period.

Transport Infrastructure for Pilgrims

Recognizing that transportation is a critical component for millions of pilgrims traveling from across the country, the Transport Corporation has ramped up its operational readiness. To facilitate travel to Barsana and surrounding religious sites, officials have confirmed the deployment of 160 buses specifically for the festival. Additionally, to account for unforeseen spikes in passenger volume, 40 extra buses will be kept on standby, ready to be deployed on short notice. Mathura Depot Center In-charge, Jai Prakash Shukla, stated that the primary objective is to prioritize the convenience and safe travel of all devotees. He emphasized that the administration is prepared to increase the frequency of bus rounds if the demand exceeds initial projections, ensuring that no devotee faces unnecessary hardship during their journey to participate in the celebrations.

Administrative Coordination and Safety

The scale of preparations reflects the significance of Radhashtami within the Braj region. All local departments are operating in tandem to meet the logistical demands of the festival. Beyond transportation and crowd management, local officials are continuously assessing the ground situation to adjust deployment strategies as needed. The emphasis remains on creating an environment where the spiritual sanctity of the event is upheld while maintaining public safety. Pilgrims are advised to follow the designated routes and cooperate with security personnel stationed at the various holding areas. As Barsana prepares for this grand observance, the administration remains committed to leveraging every available resource to handle the significant influx of devotees effectively, underscoring the importance of coordinated infrastructure planning in managing large-scale religious tourism in the heart of the Braj region.
