Record Paddy Arrivals Cause Traffic Jams at Kosi Kalan Mandi
Record paddy arrivals in Kosi Kalan's Krishi Anaj Mandi lead to traffic congestion as farmers prefer private buyers over empty government procurement centers.

Kosi Kalan, November 1, 2026: The Krishi Anaj Mandi in Kosi Kalan has witnessed a record-breaking surge in paddy arrivals during the ongoing 2026-27 season. According to data provided by the Mandi administration and commission agents, the total paddy purchase recorded to date stands at 13253.81 quintals. This volume marks an increase of approximately 1.25 lakh kilograms compared to the 11807.42 quintals recorded during the 2025-26 season.
Improved crop yields have led to a substantial increase in the number of farmers bringing their produce to the market. While private commission agents are currently experiencing high footfall and increased business activity, government procurement centers in the area remain largely vacant. Farmers are reportedly choosing to sell their produce to private traders instead of opting for government centers.

Long queues of tractor-trolleys loaded with paddy have congested the Mandi premises, spilling over onto major nearby roads and causing severe traffic jams. These blockages have hindered the movement of other essential commodities, leaving vegetable and fruit traders, as well as other merchants, struggling to transport their goods to their respective destinations.
Representatives from the All India Vyapar Mandal, along with local farmers, have expressed concern over the situation. They have formally requested that the administration expedite the weighing and lifting processes to clear the backlog and alleviate the congestion. The accumulation of vehicles has disrupted the daily flow of goods, creating a bottleneck that has impacted both trade and farmer access.
Addressing the growing concerns, Kosi Kalan Mandi Secretary Umesh Kumar stated that the administration is actively implementing additional measures to manage the traffic flow. He noted that efforts are underway to streamline market operations, with the primary objective being the mitigation of the current traffic issues to ensure that both farmers and traders can conduct their business without further difficulty.
