Food Safety Department in Mathura Increases Inspections Ahead of Festivals

Mathura, August 27, 2026: With major upcoming festivals such as Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami approaching, the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has intensified its efforts to crack down on the sale of adulterated and substandard food items. The department is conducting a series of inspections across food establishments in the district to evaluate the quality of sweets, snacks, and other food products to ensure the public receives safe and high-quality goods during the festive season.

Led by Food Safety Officer Dr. Jatin Kumar, a departmental team has been visiting food shops located within the city and surrounding areas. During these inspections, the quality of various items offered for sale was scrutinized, including ghevar, peda, paneer, assorted sweets, and savory snacks. In instances where officials had concerns regarding the quality of the products, samples were collected to be sent to a laboratory for formal testing.

Beyond checking for adulteration, officials have provided clear instructions to shopkeepers regarding operational standards. Traders have been directed to maintain high levels of cleanliness within their establishments, ensure that all food items are kept covered, and strictly adhere to established food safety regulations.

The department highlighted that the risk of food adulteration often rises alongside the increased demand for food products during festival periods. To address this, the current initiative involving regular inspections and the systematic collection of samples is set to continue.

The primary objective of this campaign, according to the department, is to safeguard consumer health and ensure the overall quality of food supplies available in the market. The authorities have issued a clear warning: if laboratory tests confirm any instance of adulteration, poor quality, or a violation of mandated food standards, strict action will be taken against the concerned food business operator in accordance with the law.
