Mathura Police Arrest Man With Over 4kg Ganja Under Operation Prahar
Mathura police and the excise team arrested Naresh, a resident of Dhoklavas, with 4kg 38 grams of illegal ganja near the Tanti Gaon bypass.

Surir, September 16, 2026: Mathura police, in a coordinated effort with the local excise team, arrested one individual on September 14, 2026, for the possession of illegal narcotics. The arrest was made as part of the ongoing “Operation Prahar,” a district-wide initiative spearheaded by the Mathura administration to curb the sale and distribution of illicit substances. The accused was apprehended with 4kg 38 grams of illegal ganja in his possession.
Details of the Apprehension
According to official sources, the arrest took place at approximately 12.25 PM near the Tanti Gaon bypass, situated on the Tanti Gaon-Surir road. The suspect, identified as Naresh, is a 27-year-old resident of village Dhoklavas within the Surir police station jurisdiction. Police and excise officials were conducting routine checks in the area when they encountered the individual 50 meters past the bypass, leading to the recovery of the contraband. Following the seizure, a case was registered against the suspect at the Surir police station under crime number 204/2026, specifically citing sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act. He is currently in custody as authorities initiate further legal proceedings.

Extensive Criminal Record
The arrest has brought renewed attention to the suspect’s significant criminal background. Documentation released by the local police indicates that Naresh has been implicated in a total of 15 criminal cases across Mathura and Aligarh districts. His history includes multiple charges related to theft, robbery, and violations of the Arms Act. Records show past involvement in cases under the Gangster Act in both Nauhjheel, Mathura, and Iglas, Aligarh. Previous FIRs range from simple theft under sections 379/411 of the IPC to more severe charges of robbery and conspiracy under sections 392, 394, and 120B. This latest incident, cataloged as his 15th registered offense, marks his first major arrest under the specific purview of the NDPS Act.
Joint Law Enforcement Operation
The success of this operation was attributed to the collaborative efforts of the Surir police and the Mathura excise department. The raiding team included Inspector (Excise) Bhimkumar Tiwari, Station House Officer Arun Kumar Dagar, and Sub-Inspector Viresh Kumar. Support was provided by Head Excise Constable Rajballabh Sharma, Head Constable Rajkhan, and Excise Constable Arpan Gaud. Authorities have reiterated that “Operation Prahar” will continue to target illicit drug networks across the district, focusing on high-traffic zones like the Tanti Gaon road. The police have signaled that similar crackdowns are expected in the coming weeks to dismantle supply chains in rural pockets of the district. The department remains committed to maintaining public safety through rigorous monitoring of narcotics trafficking, with this latest detention being framed as a vital step in those efforts.
