“Gaur Is Krishna and Krishna Is Gaur” – Devotees Inspired by Govardhan Dacoit Leela in Mathura

Mathura: During the ongoing Gaurang Leela being organized at Chitrakoot by Shri Ramayan Pracharini Samiti, Vyas Krishna Murari presented the inspiring episode of the Govardhan Dacoit Leela, conveying profound messages of devotion, repentance, and divine grace. The performance captivated devotees and highlighted how even the most hardened heart can be transformed through the touch of the Lord.

The Leela began with the story of a notorious dacoit who, after committing a robbery in a king’s palace, sought refuge in a religious gathering where Pandit Parshuram was narrating sacred stories. During the discourse, Pandit Parshuram was vividly describing the divine beauty of Lord Krishna and the priceless ornaments adorning Him.

Hearing about Krishna’s magnificent appearance, His love for butter, and details about where He could be found, the dacoit became intrigued. He obtained information from Pandit Parshuram and set out for Vrindavan with the intention of finding Lord Krishna.

Meanwhile, Pandit Parshuram’s daughter, Karmati Bai, became overwhelmed with longing to meet Lord Krishna, much like the Gopis of Vrindavan. Driven by pure devotion, she too left for Vrindavan in search of the Lord.

As Karmati Bai wandered hungry and thirsty, Lord Krishna, bound by the power of her devotion and love, personally arrived carrying food for her. He lovingly fed her with His own hands. Deeply moved by His divine compassion, Karmati Bai was granted an opportunity to ask for a boon.

Instead of seeking wealth or worldly comforts, she requested only one blessing—to spend her life in Vrindavan. Lord Krishna fulfilled her wish by arranging a cottage for her at Banshivat, enabling her to remain forever immersed in devotion and remembrance of Him.

The narrative then returned to Govardhan, the dacoit, who eventually reached Vrindavan. One day, he suddenly heard the enchanting melody of Shyam Sundar’s flute and caught sight of the Lord. Driven by his original intentions, he attempted to seize Krishna.

However, the moment Govardhan came into contact with the Lord, his heart underwent a complete transformation. The divine touch of Krishna erased his sinful tendencies and awakened spiritual realization within him. Filled with remorse and repentance, he sought forgiveness and surrendered at the feet of the Lord.

Lord Krishna accepted his repentance and fulfilled his desire to remain in Vrindavan. Thus, the dacoit who had once lived a life of crime became a devotee blessed with the opportunity to reside in the sacred land of Vrindavan.

During the morning discourse, Vyas Krishna Murari also narrated the story of two individuals named Jagannath and Madhav, who were known for their demonic tendencies and immoral conduct. Through the efforts of Sant Haridas, who traveled from lane to lane and town to town conducting Sankirtan, countless people were inspired to embrace devotion and remember the divine name of the Lord.

While spreading the message of devotion, Sant Haridas proclaimed the profound spiritual truth that:

“Gaur is Krishna and Krishna is Gaur.”

This message emphasized the non-difference between Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (Gauranga) and Lord Krishna, inspiring devotees to deepen their faith and understanding of divine love.

Saint Shantanu Maharaj from Prayagraj attended the event and participated in the spiritual proceedings. He was welcomed by Prabhat Sarraf with a ceremonial patuka.

The program was conducted by Lachhman Prasad Yadav. During the event, Moolchand Garg, Madhav Sharan Agarwal, Kalyan Das Brijwasi, Sumit Agarwal, and Yogesh Varshney performed the aarti of the divine forms of the Lord.

The Leela concluded with a powerful message that no person is beyond redemption. Whether it is Karmati Bai’s unwavering devotion or Govardhan Dacoit’s heartfelt repentance, the grace of Lord Krishna is available to all who sincerely seek Him.
