Mathura Introduces New E-Rickshaw and Auto Routes, Violators Face Fines Up to ₹20,000

Mathura, June 19, 2026: In a major move aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving urban mobility, the Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation (MVMC) has implemented a new route system for e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws and tempos operating within Mathura and Vrindavan.

The new traffic management plan has been introduced under the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mathura, with the objective of ensuring smoother movement of vehicles, safer transportation for pilgrims and residents, and better traffic discipline in the twin cities.

Why the New Route System Has Been Introduced

Mathura and Vrindavan receive millions of pilgrims and tourists every year, especially during major religious festivals, weekends and holiday seasons. Growing traffic pressure, unauthorized vehicle movement and congestion near temples, railway stations and market areas have remained major challenges for local authorities.

The new route system aims to:

QR Code and Color Coding Made Mandatory

Municipal authorities have made route identification measures mandatory for all authorized vehicles.

Under the new rules:

  • Every registered e-rickshaw and auto-rickshaw must operate only on its allotted route.
  • Vehicles must display route-specific color coding.
  • QR code stickers issued by the Municipal Corporation must be displayed prominently.
  • Only officially allocated vehicles will be permitted to operate on designated routes.
