Mathura – Raya Police Arrest Man With Nearly 10kg of Ganja in Operation Prahar

Mathura News, September 3, 2026: Mathura police, acting in coordination with the district SWAT team, successfully apprehended an individual possessing nearly 10 kilograms of illegal narcotics late Sunday night. The arrest occurred under the ongoing district-wide initiative known as Operation Prahar, which focuses on curbing the illegal sale and distribution of intoxicating substances across the region. According to official reports released by the Raya police station, the operation was executed based on precise intelligence provided by a police informant.

Details of the Narcotics Seizure

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Rameshwar, a resident of Deewana Kalan within the jurisdiction of the Jamunapar police station, was intercepted by law enforcement officials near the Yamuna Expressway underpass at the Raya cut. The arrest took place at approximately 10:50 p.m. on September 1, 2026. Upon conducting a search of the individual, authorities recovered 9 kilograms and 894 grams of contraband, identified by officials as illicit ganja (cannabis).

Following the discovery of the narcotics, the suspect was taken into custody on-site. The seizure of such a significant quantity of illicit material represents a notable outcome for the local law enforcement agencies, which have been intensifying their patrols along major transit corridors like the Yamuna Expressway to disrupt illegal trade routes. Officials noted that the suspect has a prior criminal record, further complicating the legal proceedings currently underway against him.

In the wake of the arrest, the Raya police registered a formal case against the accused under sections 8 and 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Records from the local police station indicate that Rameshwar was previously booked in 2025 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Jamunapar police station, specifically cases relating to criminal intimidation and other offenses. The operation was conducted by a large, specialized team led by Raya Station House Officer (SHO) Karmvir Singh, alongside SWAT team lead Sub-Inspector Mahavir Singh. Several other officers, including Sub-Inspectors Nitin Tyagi and Intezar Ali, were instrumental in the successful execution of the mission. The team comprised a total of 13 police personnel, including support from head constables and regular constables from both the Raya station and the SWAT unit, reflecting the coordinated nature of the district-wide crackdown on drug-related activities.
